What is it?
Cold plunging, also known a cold-water immersion, is a practice of immersing oneself into cold water for brief periods of time. Our custom cold plunge pools are the only Health Department-approved, commercial cold and hot plunge pools in Austin and have the highest sanitation and filtration. Learn more about Hydrotec and how they are the safest in the market nationwide.

Contrast hydrotherapy is a series of repeated immersions in water, alternating between hot and cold temperatures for a specific rate, temperature, and time. During contrast hydrotherapy, blood vessels constrict and expand, boosting blood flow and delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the tissues, resulting in a reduction of inflammation.

Is cold plunge part of The Protocol?
Yes, our science-backed recovery protocol consists of 30 minutes in the infrared sauna, 15 minutes alternating cold/hot tubs, and Normatec compression therapy to finish. Learn more about The Protocol and its benefits here.

The Protocol can decrease all-cause mortality, boost the immune system, decrease pain, inflammation, stress and anxiety, improve mood and focus, and boost energy.

What is the science behind it?
Cold exposure results in a prolonged release of dopamine, which elevates mood and enhances focus, attention and goal-directed behavior.

Deliberate cold exposure causes a significant release of adrenaline and noradrenaline in the brain and body. These neurochemicals make us feel alert, and the cold causes their levels to stay elevated for some time.

The more frequent use of our science-backed protocol, the more robust the benefit. At 2 sessions per week, humans can see a 22% reduction in sudden cardiac-related death. At 4-7 sessions per week, a 65% reduction in sudden cardiac-related death and a 40% less risk in all-cause mortality— the death rate from all causes of death for a population in a given time period.

Who can benefit from cold plunging?
We believe that everybody can benefit from a cold plunge, as it offers both physical and mental benefits beyond just athletic performance!
